Charleston Police Department warn of power company scam

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Charleston Police Department is warning of a fraudulent scheme involving people claiming to be from Appalachian Power Company.

According to the police department, a caller told the victims their power would be cut off if they did not pay a specific amount of money. The caller then directed the people to purchase a prepaid card and provide them with the card’s number.

No charges have been filed at this time. Anyone approached by a scammer are encouraged to contact police.
