Charleston police arrest 10 people in undercover sting at Capitol Market

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Charleston Police Department Hybrid Unit conducted its third sting operation this week Thursday, arresting 10 people at the Capitol Market.

The first two efforts resulted in 14 arrests being made at the Charleston Town Center Mall. Suspects were arrested Thursday on a range of charges, including possession of marijuana and capias for previous charges.

Lt. Autumn Davis, the public information officer for the police department, said undercover cops were used following complaints from local business leaders.

“We rely on community members, business people or just citizens out and about,” she said. “If they see something, say something.”

Davis said local parents have also raised concerns regarding homeless individuals harassing school children for money.

“It interrupts business and it keeps people from going to those areas and enjoying themselves,” she said. “I think, all in all, we did some good today and we’ll continue to be responsive to these complaints.”

Davis said if complaints are made regarding a specific area, authorities will visit a site using undercover officers.
