Charleston man faces charges for alleged hate crime

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday for allegedly committing a hate crime in October 2017.

John Perry Taylor IV, 34, allegedly injured a woman, identified as A.P., on the evening of Oct. 7, 2017, and into Oct. 8, 2017.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Taylor struck A.P. multiple times in the head with a glass bottle because of her sexual orientation. The woman suffered a laceration, bruising and pain.

Taylor faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
