Charleston hosts July 4 celebration

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston residents were treated to an early July 4 pyrotechnic display Tuesday evening, as fireworks were launched across the Kanawha River from the Haddad Riverfront Park.

The West Virginia Symphony Brass Ensemble performed before and during the display, playing patriotic songs like Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” in addition to John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

Kemp Meyer, 7, of Charleston, said he loves Independence Day for the fireworks.

“I like them all,” he said.

Wes Eary, of Charleston, said Fourth of July gives him a feeling of nostalgia.

“Watermelon, sparklers, fireworks, hot dogs, you name it, baked beans cole sale, have been basically the thing that got me out of bed and excited about the Fourth of July,” he said.

West Virginia Power will hold a fireworks display Wednesday at the end of their game against the Lexington Legends. First pitch is at 7:05.
