Charleston dentist sentenced to falsely billing Medicaid, MCOs

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston dentist was sentenced Thursday to five years in federal prison for health care fraud after falsely billing state Medicaid and Medicaid Managed Care Organizations for more than $700,000.

Antoine Skaff, 58, previously agreed to pay the damages of $2.2 million, which is three times the loss suffered by West Virginia Medicaid.

Skaff falsely billed Medicaid and Medicaid MCOs for procedures he did not perform. The scheme lasted more than five years.

Skaff admitted to upcoding, or falsely inflating his billings.
