Charleston CVB hosts training for new ambassadors

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Just over a dozen new ambassadors with the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau will be seen around the Capital City this summer to offer guidance to event goers and tourists.

The volunteers will be shown different attractions, given several tours of different locations and be given information about what the city has to offer.

“You’re our representation. You’re our face for the organization, so it’s very important to make sure that you understand who we are, what we’re doing, what we stand for,” said Jama Jarrett, vice president of operations and communications with the CVB.

An orientation meeting was held Monday morning at Appalachian Power Park for those interested in becoming a volunteer for the CVB.

Jarrett said because of their small staff, extra volunteers are needed at this time.

“We only have nine staff members, so when we are working events or managing events it’s very important that we have volunteers to help us logistically run those events,” she said.

The ambassadors come from all walks of life, Jarrett said.

“We have retired people, we have business owners and we have people who work full time jobs who are still being part of that front line, face-to-face person, when you’re coming into town visiting,” she said.

There are several events this Memorial Day weekend in Charleston including the first Live on the Levee concert of the summer at Haddad Riverfront Park, a FestivALL Preview, Taste-of-ALL at the Four Points by Sheraton and the Vandalia Gathering on the state Capitol grounds.
