Charleston changes name, time of Christmas parade

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The City of Charleston has announced it along with Charleston Town Center Mall will host the Charleston Winter Parade on Thursday, Dec. 12.

The parade is replacing what used to be called the Charleston Christmas Parade. Mayor’s office spokesman Mackenzie Spencer explained the name change.

“Charleston is a welcoming and inclusive city. Charleston Winter Parade is a more inclusive name for the parade,” Spencer said.

The change also includes a switch to a weeknight instead of a Saturday morning parade.

Tuesday’s announcement said the Town Center will be judge floats beginning at 6:15 that evening. Charleston Town Center Float Contest rules can be found at charlestonwv.gov/winterparade

Applications for the parade are due by Nov. 18.
