Carper requests meeting with AEP’s Beam regarding outages

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper called Monday for a meeting with the head of Appalachian Power following repeated power outages in the county.

Carper said Appalachian Power President and Chief Operating Officer Chris Beam needs to answer for outages in the Elkview and Crede areas.

“I have received numerous complaints from citizens in the Elk Valley area regarding repeated power outages and I have grave concerns regarding the power grid in that area,” he said. “I want to meet with the President of AEP to discuss my concerns and the multiple citizen complaints I have received. This is an unacceptable threat to health and safety.”

According to a statement from the commission, a meeting has been requested for Tuesday or “an immediate time thereafter.”
