Carper: No worries about water released from Sutton Dam

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Residents of Clendenin and the Elk River do not have to worry about water released from Sutton Dam causing additional flooding or property damage.

Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has made him aware the release of water will not cause flooding.

“Kanawha County Emergency Management has been continually communicating with the Army Corps and the National Weather Service during this weather event,” Carper said.

The Elk River at Queen Shoals crested following bands of rain Thursday and Friday. Water levels will recede over the weekend.
