Capital to play again for AAA crown

ONA, W.Va. — The Capital High School football team is just one step away from winning its second straight Class AAA football championship after a 35-13 victory Saturday in Ona against previously unbeaten and top-seed Cabell Midland.

The Cougars (10-2) jumped out to a 14-0 lead over the Knights and scored again late in the second quarter on a 44-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Tyrhee Pratt to Miguel “Crunchy” Bays for a three-touchdown lead heading into halftime.

Capital scored two more touchdowns in the second half including a late score from Pratt.

The fourth-seeded Cougars will now play third-seeded Wheeling Park Saturday at noon at Wheeling Island Stadium in the Super Six for the state title.

“It’s very special,” Pratt said. “A great chance to repeat. It would be great for our community and our school.”

The championship game can be heard on 580WCHS next Saturday afternoon.
