CAMC acquires Greenbrier Valley Medical Center

RONCEVERTE, W.Va. — Greenbrier Valley Medical Center is officially a part of Charleston Area Medical Center.

The acquisition happened on Sunday.

Dave Ramsey

In March 2022, CAMC Health Network and Morgantown-based Mon Health System announced their intent to form a single health care system called Vandalia Health that will stretch across the state.

Dave Ramsey, president and CEO of Vandalia Health, was at GVMC Saturday where staff began changing signs outside and inside the hospital.

“There will be a huge difference in how the hospital is managed and cared for as an asset of the community,” he said. “It is only focused on the well-being of the community, the services in the community and the health care that we can provide.”

Ramsey previously said each facility will maintain its “unique historical identity” under the Vandalia Health name. At GVMC, he said it’s critical to expand services and provide more access to patients.

“By adding more doctors, more equipment, more staff at the hospital, more people can stay close to home when they’re ill and need our services,” Ramsey said.

As of Sunday, CAMC is made up of five hospitals including CAMC General Hospital, CAMC Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, CAMC Memorial Hospital, CAMC Teays Valley Hospital and CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital, the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine and the CAMC Foundation.

Ramsey said these acquisitions are only the beginning for CAMC.

“We have great plans to add more equipment, more services, more doctors, open more beds. It’s going to be a very exciting time for health care in the community and in this region,” he said.

According to CAMC, all necessary regulatory and government approvals and the purchasing agreement with Community Health Systems have been finalized.

CAMC administrators were at GVMC throughout the holiday weekend during its transition to CAMC.
