California man pleads guilty in Charleston to meth charge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A California man pleaded guilty Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Charleston to distributing methamphetamine, according to U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.

Terry Cunningham, 32, of Los Angeles, admitted that in July he shipped a package containing meth to an undercover Kanawha County sheriff’s deputy with the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team.

According to a news release, the deputy picked up the package, then Cunningham provided him with instructions for making the payment through MoneyGram. After Cunningham confirmed to the deputy he received his payment at a Walmart in Los Angeles, he was arrested.

Cinningham faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Apr. 6, 2016 in Charleston.
