Bids will open in November for renovations to Hurricane’s Valley Park

WINFIELD, W.Va. — Bids will be opened November 18 on the first phase of renovations to Valley Park in Hurricane.

“The first phase includes improvements to the ball fields,” said Putnam County Commission President Joe Haynes. “We’ll have a baseball/softball triplex with new press box, rest rooms, and all of that. They’ll be turf fields so we’ll be able to play on them as soon as they’re completed.”

The first phase will also include a new turfed soccer field in the park with all amenities and a state of the art playground facility which can accommodate children with disabilities and special needs.

Phase two of the project has Haynes very excited. The second phase, which will begin next year will include the construction of a new community center which promises to enlarge the county’s available meeting space.

“Right now in Putnam County the largest existing space we have is our current community center which can accommodate up to 200 people if you really pack them in,” Haynes explained. “The new facility will be able to seat up to 450.”

Haynes said currently the Chamber of Commerce annual meeting has to be held in Charleston to find a large enough meeting space. He said the new community center will accommodate large and small meetings and will make it a more attractive option for drawing meetings to the Hurricane area. He envisioned the new center housing high school proms and other community functions once complete.
