Bayer CropScience donates $600K to WVSU for security upgrades

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University announced Monday it received a $600,000 contribution from Bayer CropScience that will benefit campus safety.

The contribution will go toward several security enhancements, said WVSU Vice President for University Relations and Operations Kim Osborne.

“We are going to be purchasing a diesel generator and it’s large enough that it’s capable of supplying electricity to fully power the largest facility on campus,” Osborne said. “We’re also going to be hiring an additional public safety officer, who’s duties will be to include an assessment of campus safety.”

Upgrades would also include a surveillance camera system and new police cruisers. Osborne was thankful for the support of Bayer CropScience to the Institute campus.

“Bayer CropScience has been a very strong supporter of West Virginia State University in terms of security and related enhancements, as well as scholarship contributions and other opportunities to benefit the campus and the students in their educational pursuits,” she said.

The contribution to the WVSU Foundation was announced by WVSU President Brian Hemphill, along with WVSU Foundation leaders.

“We often refer to our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends as ‘the State family’ and we work for what is best for them,” said Hemphill. “With this contribution, Bayer CropScience is enabling us to further improve our campus for each member of the State family, and I am grateful to the entire Bayer CropScience team for that.”
