Bail set at a half-million dollars in West Hamlin man’s case

WINFIELD, W.Va. — Bail was set at $500,000 cash Friday for the Lincoln County man who lead police on a pursuit the day before that ended in a crash on state Route 34.

Travis Salmons, of West Hamlin, was arraigned in Putnam County Magistrate Court Friday following his release from a hospital.

It’s alleged Salmons was driving a stolen truck from Cabell County Thursday afternoon when he was spotted by Putnam County police at the intersection of Route 34 and U.S. Route 60. Salmons temporarily stopped as police approached but then took off.

Salmons stopped the truck again near the Putnam-Lincoln county line but took off as a police officer tried to stop him. One officer shot him in the leg while another officer was injured as Salmons took off again. He finally stopped and was arrested.

He’s charged with with attempted first-degree murder, attempt to disarm a police officer and fleeing with reckless disregard. He’s being held in the Western Regional Jail.
