Auction scheduled for Crossings Plaza in Elkview

ELKVIEW, W.Va. — The Crossings Mall in Elkview is up for sale.

The receiver of the property said the property will be sold at a public auction “to the highest bidder” on Jan. 24 at 1:30 p.m. on the steps of the Kanawha County courthouse.

Last month, a federal judge put the property into receivership in order to get the bridge leading to the plaza rebuilt. The bridge was destroyed in the June 23 flood.

The plaza hasn’t been opened since the bridge collapsed. Several hundred people lost their jobs.

Bridge construction could cost more than $1 million, according to the Kanawha County Commission.

If the property is sold at the trustee’s sale, the receiver will still be involved in the bridge’s construction.

The receiver told the Gazette-Mail he hopes to have to property back open by this summer.
