Arrest made in latest Huntington shooting death

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A person was shot and killed in Huntington late Tuesday morning, authorities said. It marked second shooting death in the city in as many days.

Police were called to the Marathon station at the intersection of Hal Greer Boulevard and Charleston Avenue at just before 11:30 a.m. They found one person dead and began searching for a suspect.

Police had a suspect in custody by 2 p.m. Tuesday. Few details were initially released. Huntington Mayor Steve Williams scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m. Tuesday to discuss public safety concerns.

The shooting came just more than 24 hours after a shooting death at an apartment on 5th Avenue. The body of Taylor Wheeler, 28, was found Monday morning. No arrests have been made.

There have been more than 15 homicides in Huntington this year.

There was a non-fatal shooting in downtown Huntington Monday night.
