Another emergency landing on I-77

FAIRPLAIN, W.Va. — For the second day in a row a pilot had to use Interstate 77 in Jackson County to make an emergency landing because of engine problems.

The pilot had to make another emergency landing on I-77 Tuesday.

The pilot first landed the plane Monday evening near the Fairplain exit. He was given the approval to take off Tuesday at around noon but once in the air the engine stopped and he made a second emergency landing on the interstate. Once again there were no injuries.

The plane was taken back to the same gas station where it had gotten work Monday night.

Ripley resident Cole Waybright saw the plane land Monday. He said it was heading north with I-77 traffic.

“He followed the median for a while and then as the cars started slowing down he touched down and pulled off to the side of the road like nothing happened,” Waybright said.

Authorities said the man is a very experienced pilot with thousands of hours of flying time.
