American Heart Association to host Heart Ball in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A fundraiser aimed at building healthier lives in West Virginia returns to Charleston this Saturday.

The American Heart Association’s Heart Ball will be held at the Charleston Marriott Town Center from 6 to 11 p.m.

The nationwide event focuses on the fight against heart disease and strokes that lead to one third of the deaths in West Virginia each year, according to AHA communications director Kevin Pauley.

“It’s critical,” he said. “When you look at the fact that one in three woman will die of heart disease, it’s a big mission.”

Pauley said, for that reason, they need the public’s help in raising funds through the Heart Ball to help continue education and research throughout the community.

“The money that they put into this event really does mean something. It is helping save lives,” he said. “It is helping to make sure that a grandparent is there for another Christmas. There’s so many moments that you’re helping provide for families.”

The event is black tie optional and will feature live music with The Esquires, food, auctions and more.

This year’s Heart of Gold Honoree is Dr. Ganpat Thakker, a cardiologist who has practiced medicine for over 35 years.

“This is a guy who literally talks the talk and walks the walk when it comes to heart health and the American Heart Association’s mission,” Pauley said.

Tickets to the Heart Ball are $200.

Online registration is closed, but tickets are still available by calling 304-720-7831.
