All 4 lanes of Clendenin Street closed for WV Hunting & Fishing Show at Civic Center

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –– The block of Clendenin Street, between Quarrier and Lee Streets, is closed this weekend for ongoing construction and the West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show at the Charleston Civic Center.

“We’re trying to, of course, protect folks as much as possible from active construction to make sure that people can get safely to and from what’s happening inside the Civic Center,” said Charleston Deputy Mayor Rod Blackstone.

The two northbound lanes of the block have been shutdown to due to construction for quite some time. This weekend, the two southbound lanes will be closed as well. The southbound lanes will open at 8 a.m. Monday.

“Because of the increased traffic we have this weekend, we figured it’s probably better to just shut the whole thing down so people can go from the mall to the Civic Center, back and forth safely, without any hesitation,” Blackstone said.

Blackstone said the ongoing construction work has made it difficult to host events at the Civic Center.

“It’s one of the challenging the Civic Center has had since this renovation project began. They’re continuing to host events and to stay in business while this major renovation is happening, so this is another example of that,” he said.

More road closures are expected throughout this year for future events at the Civic Center, Blackstone said.

The West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show began Friday and will run through Sunday. This is the 30th year for the event.
