No arrests in animal cruelty case

DANESE, W.Va. — The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an animal cruelty case.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said five dogs and a large number of cats were found at a residence on Alaska Mountain Road in the Danese area Tuesday. He said the animals had apparently been abandoned and had no food or water.

“There is no excuse for keeping animals penned up in filthy living conditions without adequate food, water or shelter,” Sheriff Kessler said in a news release. “We will be continuing this investigation to identify the person(s) responsible for the deplorable living condition of these animals and will be consulting with the Office of the Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney to determine the appropriate criminal charges in connection with this case.”

All of the animals were taken to the Fayette County Animal Shelter.
