CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man who broke into the closed East Bank Middle School last summer has been sentenced to three years probation after an earlier guilty plea.
Mark Mulliins, 36, of East Bank, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty last year to grand larceny.
Mullins and a second man broke into the school on July 1 and stole several items. They were spotted on surveillance video going in and out of classrooms. Both men attempted to cover their heads and faces.
Deputies have recovered several stolen items including a Kenwood IRP Digital Radio Base Station, worth about $6,000, and five laptop computers.
Kanawha County Circuit Judge Tera Salango sentenced Mullins to 1-10 years in prison but suspended it in favor of probation. Salango is requiring Mullins to complete drug court as a condition of his probation.
The items stolen from the school were recovered.
East Bank Middle School closed to students after last school year. The students now attend DuPont Middle School.
