CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Former Huntington mayor and recent Democratic gubernatorial nominee Steve Williams is getting back into politics.
Williams filed paperwork Friday at the Secretary of State’s Office to run for House of Delegates in the May Primary Election.
Williams will be seeking the Democratic nomination in the 24th Delegate District, a seat currently held by Del. Patrick Lucas, R-Cabell.
In a Friday post on Facebook Williams said, “It’s official! I am excited to to announce that I am a candidate on the Democratic ticket for the 24th District of the WV House of Delegates. A year away revealed to me that I am not done. Let’s get busy!”
Williams served in the House of Delegates from 1987 to 1994. He served three four-terms as mayor of Huntington, first taking office in January 2013.
Williams earned the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2024. He lost in the General Election to Gov. Patrick Morrisey.
The filing period for the May election goes to midnight on Jan. 31.
