CHARLESTON, W.Va. –WVRC Media is once again giving listeners the chance to give back to those in need this winter.
The 3rd Annual Sock Drop returns this Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at 1111 Virginia Street East.
96.1 KWS’s Robb Reel says WVRC Media and Union Mission will be accepting packages of socks or cash and check donations.
“Bring us brand new socks, or cash check donations for Union Mission,” Reel said on 580 Live with Dave Allen Monday. “The bulk buying power they have is substantial.”
Last year, organizers collected hundreds of pairs of socks to distribute to people experiencing homelessness and to shelters.
Reel said it’s easy to donate.
“You bring us the thing we’re asking for, you loop through our parking lot, you hand it to us, and the folks from Union Mission, Jason, Brian, Mighty Joe, whoever might be here at the time, and then you go on your merry way, you don’t have to get out of your nice, warm, comfortable vehicle,” he said.
Socks continue to be the most requested item at shelters, especially during frigid temperatures.
Reel said you can simply pick up a package of socks, and the size doesn’t matter.
“The beauty is you don’t have to worry about size, you don’t have to worry about color, it’s easy to grab a pair or a package off the rack wherever you’re shopping,” he said.
