CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Air National Guard crews spent several hours Thursday cleaning up an accidental spill of de-icing fluid at the 130th Airlift Wing in Charleston.

The Guard said less than 500 gallons of diluted Propylene glycol was spilled in the 130th motor pool area not long after midnight.

“This chemical is non-toxic, nonhazardous, and there is no threat to the public or to local water systems,” the Guard said.

Guard officials said protocol was followed including dispatching the 130th’s fire department and bioenvironmental unit to begin cleanup. The state DEP was also contacted.
