Throat slashing lands city man in jail

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A man was arrested Friday and charged with slashing a woman’s throat causing what police called ‘life threatening injuries.”

Roy Edward Brooks, 47, of Shrewsbury Street in Charleston, was charged with malicious wounding. According to the criminal complaint filed by Charleston police, Brooks used a sharp object to slash the front of the neck of Lori Lee Roach. The slash went to Roach’s trachea, according to police. She was taken into emergency surgery at CAMC General.

The incident happened at a residence on Quarrier Street.

Brooks was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court and was being held on $100,000 bail.
