CLENDENIN, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Board of Education has entered a contract with the state Division of Highways to complete work at the old Herbert Hoover High School.
The $121,257.35 contract, which was approved during a Monday evening board meeting, will ensure earthwork, stabilization, and drainage improvement work will be done on the former campus that was ravaged by the 2016 flood.
“This is the last thing in the agreement with FEMA for us to perform before we hand the property over to the town of Clendenin,” said Kanawha County Schools facilities director Andrew Crawford.
Crawford told the board that work should start in February and be finished by March.
The funds are reimbursable by FEMA.
Students at Hoover learned in portable classrooms in the years following the 2016 flood before their brand-new campus was opened in Elkview in 2023.
