UPDATE 12:45 p.m. — Reports say the driver is in stable condition.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One person is in the hospital after a vehicle went off the Interstate 77 overpass in Charleston Tuesday morning.
The single-vehicle accident was reported near mile marker 96 in northbound lanes just after 8 o’clock.
The vehicle came off the overpass and caught fire when it landed on Kanawha Boulevard according to officials. The driver was reportedly trapped inside the burning vehicle for several minutes before being rescued and taken to the hospital.
The slow lane of I-77 North and a portion of Kanawha Boulevard were temporarily closed. According to West Virginia 511 maps, the roads have been re-opened.
An investigation is being handled by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
