CHARLESTON, W.Va. –The Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission is set to interview a dozen applicants for the state Supreme Court seat left vacant by the passing of Justice Tim Armstead.

Justice Armstead passed away on August 26, and the commission has until November 24 to interview the applicants and submit two to five names to Governor Patrick Morrisey. The governor will then have 30 days to make an appointment.

Those who will be interviewed include:

Laura Faircloth
David Gilbert
Dan Greear
Eric Hudnall
E. Ryan Kennedy
Brenden Long
Elgine McArdle
R. Steven Redding
Robert Ryan
Martin Sheehan
Gerald Titus III
Zachary Viglianco

Whomever Governor Morrisey appoints will serve until the next general election, at which point they can choose to run to fill the remainder of the unexpired term left by Justice Armstead. Armstead was elected to a 12-year term in 2020, meaning the winner would serve until 2032 if elected.

The current justices of the Supreme Court have selected retired Justice John Hutchison to serve until the governor’s appointee can take office
