CHARLESTON, W.Va. –A Charleston teenager who is accused in connection with a deadly gas station shooting entering a not guilty plea in court on Friday morning.
Jacob Fields, 18, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Tiffany Clorenia Adkins, 42, of Marmet.
Fields was arrested and charged with murder two days after Adkins was shot in the parking lot of a Sheetz convenience store.
Originally, Fields told police he was cleaning his gun when it accidentally discharged, fatally striking Adkins.
At first, he was charged with wanton endangerment and malicious assault, however the charges were upgraded after prosecutors reviewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed Fields point his gun at Adkins as she walked in front of his car moments before the shooting.
According to a criminal complaint, Fields looked toward Adkins, and “waited for her to enter his field of fire and raised his Glock Model 20 Gen 5 10mm pistol with both hands, pointing it directly at Ms. Adkins.”
Police explained that a muzzle flash could be seen on the video, as well as the front windshield glass being shattered. The video also showed Adkins collapsing to the floor shortly after the shot.
A trial is scheduled for November 3.
