ELEANOR, W.Va – As it begins to expand, nVent Electric in Putnam County is hosting a job fair this Thursday as it looks to make more than 100 additions to its workforce.

nVent constructs buildings to be used for backup power at data centers, and facility controller Andrew Metz said that they need to expand to keep up with the industry’s growth.

“Every year, it’s more work than what we’ve had before, and we’re changing our processes to almost become like a manufacturing facility for buildings, so we’re trying to actually have a gigantic assembly line,” he said on 580 Live with Dave Allen.

The expansion brings abundant opportunity for skilled workers. Job offers may come down on the spot for qualified individuals in key roles.

“We need builders to actually build the buildings that we’re going to be having here coming up. We need electricians because these have pretty highly configured gear. We also have wiring for the HVAC systems that go into these, and then we’re looking for a large group of welders as well,” he said.

Due to the difference in jobs available, pay for the positions is in a wide range, but Metz said it will be competitive.

“They are competitive wages, and they do absolutely range depending on the expertise you come in at, so if you’re more at the beginner level, it’ll be more of an entry pay. If you’re coming in with several years experience and skillset, especially in the electrical and welding area, that pay will definitely be higher as a result of that,” he said.

According to Metz, one of the keys to nVent’s success is support from local government and a strong local workforce. That’s why they want to provide opportunities for workers right in Putnam County.

“We have always had a great, supportive community here in Eleanor, WV, and also across the river in Winfield. Putnam County Commission has been great to us, as well as Eleanor, and really, the thing that makes us always want to stay here is the people,” he said.

nVent’s job fair runs from 3 pm to 6 pm at its facility located at 328 Industrial Park Drive in Eleanor.
