CHARLESTON,W.Va. — A man was killed in a shooting early Sunday morning in Charleston.
Lt, Tony Hazelett confirmed city police detectives were conducting “an active homicide investigation” following the 3:50 a.m. shooting on Elizabeth Street in the city’s east end.
Police said Ethan Samule Chic-Colbert, 34, of St Albans, was found in a car parked in a parking lot at 400 Elizabeth Street. He had been shot several times. He died at the scene.
“According to witnesses, an unknown race male, wearing dark clothing approached the victim’s
vehicle and fired several rounds,” a police news release said. “The victim was struck with gunfire as he was sitting in the drivers seat. The suspect then fled the area on foot.”
The shooting marks the city’s first murder in 2025.
