CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A simple pair of socks is making a big difference at WVRC Media’s Drop Your Socks Drive Thru event Thursday, an initiative aimed to provide warmth and comfort to those in need.

This morning, Jason Quintrell, the director of Union Mission of West Virginia and Rob Reel of Super Star Country 96.1 KWS joined us on 580Live with Dave Allen to discuss the event which is taking place on Virginia Street East.

Quintrell said even the smallest acts can have a meaningful impact in people’s lives.

“It breaks my heart and I want to give these socks to the people,” Quintrell said.

Quintrell expressed his gratitude for the community’s response so far.

“By 8:30 we have had a couple 100 pair of socks.” he said highlighting the generosity of the community.

The event looks to encourage listeners to donate socks which will be distributed to the homeless. They emphasized the importance of donating socks. The goal is simple yet impactful and would help those who need them the most.

The socks collected throughout the event will be donated to the men’s shelter at Leon Sullivan Way and other organizations dedicated to helping homeless people in need. For those unable to donate socks, they said that cash donations are also welcomed. Every contribution plays a role in helping the homeless.

Reel praised the generous spirit of West Virginians.

“I have never encountered people who are so willing to give to their friends and neighbors,” said Reel.

Both Quintrell and Reel hope the event continues to perform well and continues to receive donations throughout the day.

The event runs to 6 p.m. Thursday.
