CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The City of Charleston will be allocating $6.2 million from its unassigned fund balance towards a multitude of city projects.

City council members voted to approve General Fund Budget Amendment No. 5 Tuesday evening, which will aid in many projects that were brought up during Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin’s State of the City address at the beginning of the year.

The projects receiving funding are as follows:

  • $100 for city-wide beautification efforts
  • $250 for Charleston Fire Department bunker gear
  • $25K for upgrades at Charleston City Council chambers
  • $50K to fund city warming and cooling centers
  • $75K to expand Charleston Urban Works to Kanawha City
  • $180K to support City Center Live and Arts Amplified
  • $250K to establish the Hearts of Our Neighborhoods program
  • $250K for security cameras at parks and recreation facilities
  • $286K to replenish the city’s road salt inventory
  • $300K for improvements at Danner Meadow Park
  • $350K toward the construction of a firefighter training center
  • $600K for Charleston Land Reuse Agency programs and operations
  • $700K toward development of a public safety center
  • $1M to establish the Municipal Auditorium Project Fund
  • $1.75M for parking garage repairs at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center
