CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A second winter storm in less than a week in West Virginia caused thousands of southern West Virginia residents to lose service from Appalachian Power.

The company reported 8,200 customers without power as of midday Saturday following new snow that came Friday night and Saturday morning.

The outages were to customers in 13 counties with the most (6,700) in Kanawha County.

The majority of outages in Kanawha County is in the Elkview, Pinch and Quick area.

The utility said it hoped to have all service restored by Saturday night.
