WINFIELD, W.Va. — The Putnam County Republican Executive Committee has forwarded the names of three residents to the county commission for an open seat on the commission.
The committee is nominating Mark Drennan, Doug Pierson and Ron Stone to replace Steve Deweese who resigned last year.
The person chosen by the county commission will fill the seat through the 2026 election.
Deweese resigned in November as part of a deal with a special prosecutor. He entered an information plea on a misdemeanor charge of fraudulent schemes
Authorities said Deweese kept $4,000 from a calendar deal.
As part of the prosecutor’s information, Deerfield stipulated Deweese would have to repay the $4,000 to the Putnam County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, resign his seat on the county commission and not seek elected office again.
