CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Appalachian Power Company said it hopes to have service restored to all its customer who lost power in Sunday’s windy conditions by Monday night.
“Appalachian Power crews have restored electric service to 65% of its customers who lost power Sunday across parts of its service area,” the utility said in a news release. “Heavy rains and damaging winds caused outages, toppling trees and company equipment. Areas impacted by outages saw average wind speeds of 45 mph, with some reaching wind highs of nearly 70 mph.”
There were 6,400 customers without service in West Virginia as of 9 a.m. Monday. The original outage number was 16,800 customers.
Boone, Cabell, Jackson, Marshall and Ohio counties took the hardest hit.
Mon Power reported 3,840 customers without service as of Monday morning.
Meteorologists are calling for additional windy conditions Tuesday and Wednesday.
