CAMPBELLS CREEK, W.Va. — A Kanawha County convenience store was robbed Friday morning.

Emergency dispatchers say the incident occurred just after 5 a.m. at a Speedway along Campbells Creek Drive.

Deputies said a man entered the store carrying a firearm and then fled the scene in a van with an undetermined amount of money. They are currently reviewing what the surveillance footage at the time of the incident picked up and to find the vehicle the suspect fled in.

Investigators said a female cashier locked herself in the back of the store while the suspect was inside. They said the suspect had stolen items behind the counter but couldn’t get the cash register to open, prompting him to take coins from a change machine instead.

Deputies continue to investigate the incident. The store had been closed for about an hour as deputies processed the scene.
