POCA, W.Va.— Brady Paxton, former West Virginia delegate, veteran, coach and teacher died Christmas evening at the age of 78.

According to his obituary with Harding Family Group, Paxton served on the WV House of Delegates for 15 years, from 1999 to 2014. He taught in the Putnam County School system for 30 years and coached football, track and field, cross country running and girls’ volleyball. He also served as the health director for Putnam County and was a Poca City Councilman, where he brought safe water, sewer, and clean air to the residents in Putnam County.

He served in the U.S. Army as a tank commander during the Vietnam War. After he served, he devoted his time fighting for Veteran’s Rights on the state and national level.

On December 29, a viewing is being held for Paxton beginning at 2 p.m. at the Gatens-Harding Funeral Home. And then at 3 p.m. he will be taken to Donnel C. Kinnard Veterans Cemetery in Institute to be buried.
