CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There’s nothing like having breakfast with Santa to get in the Christmas spirit.

The City of Charleston hosted the Breakfast With Santa event at the Kanawha City Community Center Monday the day before Christmas Eve.

Kanawha City Community Center Assistant Program Coordinator April Meadows said there was a lot going on to highlight the holiday event.

“We are having our Breakfast with Santa, it’s our first time doing it here in Kanawha City, we have reindeer games for the kids, free breakfast for them, and free photos with our Santa,” said Meadows.

Meadows said the event was completely free and open to the community.

“They’re able to come, bring the festivities, I know growing up we had this and this is something I’ll always be able to look back on,” she said. “The kids are able to make reindeer food to spread the magic for Christmas Eve night so that the reindeers will come for Christmas morning, and we can fill the kids’ bellies up, and we can have memorable photos with Santa.”

Before the breakfast got underway, the kids were making arts and crafts activities at four different stations.

One of the children at Monday’s event, Isabella Galindo said along with the first station that consisted of the reindeer food-making, there were plenty of other fun activities to do at the following tables.

“The second station is coloring a snowflake so you can do that for an ornament on your tree,” Galindo said. “The third station is making a reindeer ornament, you use a pipe cleaner to use for the ornament, three popsicle sticks, two googly eyes, and one red pom-pom.”

And finally, the fourth station was building your own snowman.

Galindo said why this was such an exciting event for her.

“Because I just think it’s really fun and because it’s Christmas time!”

She said her favorite part about Christmas is getting to spend time with her family.

Monday’s breakfast included pancakes, sausage, eggs, and potatoes, as well as orange juice, apple juice and hot chocolate.
