CHARLESTON, W.Va.— A former Fayette County police chief that was convicted in a child sex trafficking investigation will be going to prison.
Larry Allen Clay Jr., 58, was sentenced to 25 years followed by 10 years of supervised release in the case which dates all the way back to 2020.
Clay was convicted last April on conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of a minor via coercion, sex trafficking of a minor via coercion and two counts of obstruction of justice following a four-day trial.
During the trial, Prosectors said that Clay paid $100 to Kristen Naylor-Legg to have sex with a 17-year-old female in June 2020. During this time, Clay was an employee at Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Gauley Bridge police.
The court documents stated that Clay stayed in his Gauley Bridge police uniform during the first encounter which happened in Clay’s Gauley Bridge issued vehicle and the second encounter happened inside the old Gauley Bridge High School.
The prosecutors also said that Clay then told Naylor-Legg to lie to law enforcement about the encounters and also told a police officer to cover up the crimes.
Law enforcement was able to retrieve DNA from the second encounter which led to Clay’s arrest.
Naylor-Legg was sentenced to nine years in prison which would be followed by five-year supervised release for conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of a minor last year in August.
