CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The University of Charleston has announced it will no longer admit new students for its pharmacy program.
The university made the decision to drop its accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program after nearly two decades of operation, citing a decline in student interest.
UC President Marty Roth, in a statement, said it was a tough cut to make.
“This is a very difficult and emotional decision for UC,” Roth said. “Our dedicated faculty and staff have been preparing pharmacists for successful careers for close to 20 years. While pharmacists remain critical for effective healthcare, market conditions have led to a decline in student interest.”
Roth also went on to say that pharmacy school enrollments nationwide have fallen since 2016, and UC has been no different.
Current UC pharmacy students will be able to finish their schooling, but the university has now shut down any and all future students enrolling in the pharmacy program.
