UPDATE 11:10 p.m., 09/24/2024 –The shelter in place order given by West Virginia State University Tuesday night has been lifted.
The shelter in place came when police attempted to pull over a man driving a stolen vehicle along Interstate 64 near Dunbar when the vehicle crashed, and the suspect began running.
The man, who was dressed in a camouflage shirt and blue jeans ran towards the WVSU campus, which prompted the shelter in place.
Law enforcement continues its search for the suspect.
INSTITUTE, W.Va. — A shelter in place is being requested by police at West Virginia State University.
The shelter in place comes while law enforcement conducts a search for a suspected dangerous suspect on campus.
According to deputies, the suspect is a white male wearing blue jeans and a camouflage shirt who fled the scene of a crash following a vehicle pursuit Tuesday evening.
The suspect was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle along Interstate 64 where it was later wrecked near the university’s campus.
Law enforcement is asking anyone who sees a person that matches the description to call 911.
