On December 13, 2023, a call was put in regarding “suicidal thoughts” in Elkview. Another call was made shortly after saying shots had been fired. When deputies arrived, they saw Kline approaching them while carrying. an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle with a 30-round magazine and wearing ballistic body armor. The weapon was loaded with 28 unfired rounds and Kline was carrying three additional 30-round AR-15 magazines and three loaded fifteen-round Glock handgun magazines.
No one was harmed in the incident, as Kline dropped his weapon over a guardrail when police cruisers approached him.
