CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Residents affected by the April 11th and 12 storms in West Virginia will now have more time to apply for federal disaster assistance.
On Tuesday, The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that it has extended the date for those affected by the storm to November 2, as opposed to the original deadline of September 3.
Governor Jim Justice requested FEMA to extend the deadline, saying there continues to be a host of new applications for assistance coming in throughout the recent weeks.
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is also extending its deadline to November 2 for filing disasters loan applications for businesses affected.
The April 11th and 12th storms hit eight West Virginia counties, including Kanawha and Boone County. The storms produced flooding, landslides and mudslides.
