CHICAGO, IL — West Virginia Democratic Party Chairman Mike Pushkin says members of the West Virginia delegation will be ready Tuesday to cast their vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Pushkin said he could feel the momentum for the campaign before he left West Virginia but now even more so at the DNC in Chicago.
“The enthusiasm and the excitement around the Harris-Walz ticket is palpable right now,” Pushkin said Monday on MetroNews “Talkline”. “There’s more energy and enthusiasm about the Democratic ticket than I’ve seen in quite some time and more unity than I believe I’ve ever seen in the Democratic Party.”
Pushkin said he was looking forward to President Joe Biden’s Monday night speech to kick-off the convention.
“He’s probably going to talk about his record which has greatly benefited the people of West Virginia,” Pushkin said.
Biden will be well-received and honored for deciding not to run for re-election, Pushkin said.
“He put his own political ambitions aside and did what he thinks was best for the good of the country,” he said.
After his speech, Biden is expected to leave the convention and head to California for a vacation.
The roll-call vote is set for Tuesday. Pushkin said they practiced Sunday night on the convention floor. He said the West Virginia delegation is in a good spot.
“It’s excellent, excellent. I was very pleasantly surprised that we have a great visibility of the stage. We’re pretty close to the stage,” Pushkin said.
The most recent polls show Harris with a 5-point lead over former President Donald Trump both nationwide and in key battleground states. Pushkin expects an even bigger lead after the convention.
“People are just frustrated with Donald Trump and him just going off the rails and saying the most outlandish and horrible things,” Pushkin said.
West Virginia is firmly red and firmly Trump but Pushkin said he’s hopeful many will watch and listen to what is said this week in Chicago.
“It’s very important for people to tune-in, pay attention and take part in our democracy. Our government works better for the people when we have more participation and that’s what we want,” Pushkin said.
