KANAWHA CITY, W.Va. — Some tense moments in Kanawha City Tuesday afternoon after a man pointed a weapon at a Charleston Police officer.

The incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on MacCorkle Avenue when a vehicle approached a Charleston Police officer while the officer had another vehicle pulled over for a violation.

Upon approaching the officer, the driver of the vehicle pulled out a weapon and pointer it at the officer before fleeing.

Additional officers in the area got behind the suspect and followed the vehicle until it stopped at the Knights Inn along MacCorkle Avenue. There, a long standoff a occurred when the suspect did not exit the vehicle.

Officers eventually got the suspect to exit the vehicle an hour later and took the person into custody with no injuries. That suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

An investigation into the situation is ongoing.
