CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A multi-vehicle crash on Charleston’s West Side has caused a fire and loss of power for local residents.

The two-vehicle accident occurred around 8:30 Friday night on the intersection of Tennessee Avenue and Randolph Street. The wreck caused one car to flip over and crash into a nearby transformer, causing it to explode.

Charleston Police Department and Fire Departments responded to the scene.

The collision caused a fire just outside of the Boys & Girls Club of Charleston and, according to Appalachian Power’s outage map, over 1,100 people in the area are without power.

According to Appalachian Power’s website, restoration of power is estimated at 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
