SIDNEY, NY — New York State Police say all 5 people in a small plane traveling from upstate New York to Georgia, with refueling scheduled at West Virginia International Yeager Airport, died in a Sunday afternoon crash.
Police said the family had been in Cooperstown for a weekend baseball tournament and was on its way back to Georgia when the crash occurred.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration said the single-engine Piper PA-46 crashed near Sidney, New York at around 2 p.m. Sunday. The FAA said the plane took off from Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta, New York. Sidney is less than 30 miles from the airport.
Investigators with the NTSB were expected to arrive on the scene Monday afternoon. The agency said it would provide more information when it becomes available.
NYSP identified the victims as Roger Beggs, 76, Laura VanEpps, 43, Ryan VanEpps, 42, James R. VanEpps,12, Harrison VanEpps, 10.
