HAMLIN, W.Va. — A Lincoln County father and mother are in jail after their two-year-old daughter drowned and their three-year-old son was injured Wednesday night in a farm pond near Hamlin.
State troopers booked Jack Parsons, 30, and Tara Adkins, 24, in Western Regional jail overnight. They are charged with child neglect resulting in death and child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury.
Their two children were found in the pond off of Scary Creek Road at just before 9:30 Wednesday night, state police said.
The young girl was pronounced dead at Cabell Huntington Hospital. The boy is in stable condition at Cabell Huntington.
State police are continuing their investigation.
According to the criminal complaint, Parsons told troopers he was doing yard work and thought the children had gone inside the house. He said Adkins then asked him where the children were and they began searching for them. That’s when they found in the pond. Parsons told police he pulled the children out and began performing CPR on his daughter.
Preliminary hearings will be scheduled for Parsons and Adkins.
Both remain in the Western Regional Jail on $100,000 cash-only bond.
